A rap legend in the music industry has taken a friendly stance on how he feels about President Donald Trump, breaking with the traditional entertainment industry’s seemingly endless vitriol toward the 45th president.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times, rapper Snoop Dogg indicated that he had no beef with Trump. According to The Hill, he stated that he had “nothing but love and respect” for Trump, which comes as quite a twist, considering the celebrity’s past hostile comments and actions toward the president.
In 2017, Snoop Dogg made a music video that featured a satirical clown version of Donald Trump. In the video, the rapper literally guns down the effigy of Trump, who is called “Ronald Klump” in the video.
The shockingly frightening video was only one in a series of public outbursts against President Trump’s first term that included singers bemoaning their disapproval of “the Donald” and his policies.
Per The Hill, Snoop Dogg explained, “Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris.”
Although the rapper’s change of opinion toward Trump may come as a bit of a surprise, it’s important to note that he mentioned Michael Harris.
Michael “Harry O” Harris, who helped start Death Row Records, was sentenced to almost three decades in jail for “attempted murder and cocaine trafficking charges,” according to Rolling Stone.
Trump pardoned Harris while in office. He also pardoned many others. Snoop Dogg was one of several who advocated for Harris’s sentence commutation.
Whether Snoop Dogg’s “love” for Trump will continue remains to be seen, but for now, he seems to have made a 180 turn on his feelings about the 45th president.
