Trump honors nursing student Laken Riley, who tragically died after being attacked by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela
In a heart-wrenching incident, Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student from Augusta University, lost her life after being attacked by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela. The tragedy unfolded on February 22 when Laken was out for a jog in the woods near the University of Georgia campus in Athens. Her roommate reported her missing, and the University of Georgia police discovered her lifeless body.

The suspect, Jose Antonio Ibarra, is not a U.S. citizen. He entered the United States illegally in 2022 and had previously been arrested in New York City. The charges against him include malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call, and concealing the death of another. The Venezuelan national lived within a five-minute walk of the approximate scene where he allegedly took Laken’s life.
Former President Donald Trump expressed his outrage over this devastating loss. He blamed the current border security and law enforcement policies, vowing that if elected, he would “immediately seal the border” and initiate the “largest deportation operation of illegal criminals in American history.” Trump’s commitment to securing the border and protecting American citizens remains unwavering.

According to reports by Fox News, Ibarra is being accused of aggravated battery and “disfiguring her skull.” Fox News reported that Ibarra had illegally entered the country in El Paso, Texas, in September 2022 and was paroled into the U.S.
In light of Riley’s tragic death, President Trump took to Truth Social on Wednesday to honor her and pay his respects to her family. He wrote, “Laken Riley was a spectacular young woman whose life was taken from us, and her great family, by a savage monster who should not have been in our Country.”
