Congressional Clash: Jim Jordan Takes Aim at Fani Willis in Contempt Threat

Fulton Country District Attorney Fani Willis has found herself in hot water with the House Judiciary Committee, spearheaded by Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.

According to Fox 5, the committee sent a new letter to Willis following up on a previous congressional subpoena, threatening to hold her in contempt of Congress if she does not comply with a March 28 deadline.

The troubled district attorney is being asked to submit pertinent records and information for their investigation into her office’s possible alleged misuse of federal grant funds. According to RSN, the district attorney recently received an ultimatum from Judge McAfee in Georgia regarding her work on the Trump election case.

The newest letter to Willis, dated March 14, 2024, explains that the DA responded to the committee’s subpoena that “smeared a former employee of yours who spoke out about your misuse of federal grant funds.”

It continued, “We will not dignify your attacks on this brave whistleblower, or your continued attempts to distract from your conduct through misdirection and personal insults.”

The committee pointed out that they had an “obligation” to examine the allegations that have been brought forth by this whistleblower and noted that they appreciated Willis providing a “narrow set of documents” on the heels of the subpoena last month, but added that “your compliance with the subpoena to date is deficient.”

A list of further documents was listed in the letter, and provided a rebuttal to Willis’s claim that the subpoena was “overbroad and unduly burdensome under any ordinary meaning of those terms.”

The letter explained, “To the contrary, the Committee has exercised its authority with restraint: the subpoena seeks only two categories of documents and the scope of its requests covers only a limited time period; namely, from January 1, 2020, to present.”

They warned that if Willis failed to comply with their demands, they would “consider taking further action, such as the invocation of contempt of Congress proceedings.”
