As Election Day inches closer, rumors continue to swirl around who will be President Trump’s VP pick.

His decision may not be announced until just before the Republican National Convention in July, but candidate vetting is certainly in full swing. According to a Politico source close to President Trump’s campaign, “He’s going to draw this out ‘Apprentice’-style.”

The Hill reporter Julia Manchester joined Fox News to discuss the alleged audition-style vetting process, telling host Sandra Smith, “This is no surprise to me, because we know that Donald Trump really likes the drama and he likes the suspense, he knows that his supporters like to watch that, so they’ll appreciate how this process is going to be drawn out.”

Manchester continued, “We’ve already seen the process playing out, I think, on cable news,” adding that viewers have been “watching a number of these potential contenders essentially audition” during interviews and speeches at campaign events. She noted that Trump “is watching closely.”

One of President Trump’s top advisers, Susie Wiles, is reportedly leading the vetting process, which includes approximately a dozen lawmakers and other prominent Republicans.

The 45th president has long argued that a candidate’s choice for vice president does not make much of a difference as long as they are not a bad pick. However, he reportedly seeks opinions from guests at Mar-a-Lago and “teases his choices in private meetings and media interviews,” according to Politico.

Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung emphasized that President Trump “will choose the best possible person for the job and someone who will fight for America First values.”
