Update News: Trump’s ‘desperation’ is beginning to show: GOP campaign consultant
Donald Trump is a weaker presence inside the Republican Party, according to a top Republican Party campaign adviser with links to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and his savage assault on Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) this week is an indication he realizes he’s fading.
During a panel discussion on CNN’s “State of the Union,” GOP advisor Scott Jennings slammed Trump, saying the Florida governor’s climb in the polls is clearly getting under Trump’s skin.
He then focused on DeSantis’ escalating public feuds with the former president, including the former president calling the Florida Republican a “groomer” in a Truth Social post.

“DeSantis had an unusual moment,” Jennings explained to CNN presenter Jake Tapper. “Trump was hitting him on Covid and saying some really untrue things about what DeSantis had done as governor over Covid policy. Then DeSantis answers, not naming Trump, but saying, ‘I did what I did, and other people did what they did, and you can look at the electoral consequences of that.'”
“It was sort of perfect,” he added. “
And I believe he got it right because, don’t forget, DeSantis has been attacked by the media, Democrats, and, you know, you name it, every single day since he took office.”
“So he’s been taught to some extent here to engage in pugilism. Not yet with Trump, but there is some muscle memory for it, and he has excellent instincts. So far, I believe he has handled Trump, well.”

“And the desperation of that smear that you talked about? I actually think it helped DeSantis because it shows just how weak is the position that I think Trump knows he’s in right now,” he added.
