Trump Rally Sees ‘Quite a Few’ Leave Early Despite Large Crowd: Report

Former  Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Waco, Texas, Saturday saw “quite a few” of his supporters leave early despite drawing a large crowd, according to local media.

In the Lone Star State, a generally conservative state thought to be competing in the 2024 election, thousands of Trump fans descended on the opening rally of his presidential campaign on Saturday night. Trump attacked possible Republican challengers Ron DeSantis and mentioned impending charges in multiple probes throughout the event.

Despite reservations from some Republicans about his electability, surveys show Trump as the favorite to win the GOP nominee, thus his supporters have seen the gathering as a significant demonstration of support from his voting base. The size of the audience, according to his admirers, is proof of his continued appeal to conservatives.

Yet according to Waco Tribune-Herald reporter Mike Copeland, “quite a few fans did not last” until the rally’s conclusion.

“About 30 minutes into the rally, the crowd began to thin, with people getting a head start on the walk back to the parking lots, designated and otherwise,” the report reads. “Several leaving early said they accomplished what they wanted to achieve by showing up for the rally, enduring traffic and long lines. Some said after hours on the tarmac, they were tired, hungry, or both and wanted to get home.”

Others, though, noted that Trump still drew in a sizable audience.

“In case the mainstream media tries to convince you that nobody attended President Donald Trump’s event in Waco. Make the decision, “Thousands of Trump supporters can be seen in the throng in a video that reporter Daniel Baldwin for the right-leaning One America News Network tweeted.

“No other GOP candidate or would-be candidate could pull this crowd hours before a rally. The polls reflect the momentum, and Trump is leading BIG,” tweeted GOP consultant Garret Ventry.

As of Sunday night, the precise number of guests was unknown; Newsweek contacted Waco police for information. The protest comes after some of Trump’s detractors wondered if he could still draw sizable audiences.

While running for president in 2016 and 2020, Trump staged a number of sizable rallies for his supporters across the nation, and he has frequently bragged about his capacity to draw sizable crowds. Before to the 2022 midterm elections, he also organized rallies in support of his endorsed candidates, but the one on Saturday was the first after he declared his presidential candidacy in November.

Chris Christie, a former governor of New Jersey and a supporter of Trump’s prior presidential campaigns, made the suggestion that Trump’s lack of campaign rallies might be related to his alleged inability to draw a sizable crowd earlier in March after Trump’s speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

“You saw the scenes at CPAC. That room was half-full,” Christie said.
