“Trump Leads in 5 Critical States as Voters Blast Biden, Times/Siena Poll Finds”
A new poll from The New York Times and Siena College finds that former President Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden in five of the six most important battleground states one year before the 2024 election.
Trump leads Biden by 10 points in Nevada, 6 points in Georgia, 5 points in Arizona, 5 points in Michigan, and 4 points in Pennsylvania. Biden is ahead only in Wisconsin by 2 points.
In all six states, 38% of people approve of Biden’s work, according to the survey. Only 19% of voters in these states find the economy good or outstanding.
“The poll is a sign that Biden is in a vulnerable position ahead of the 2024 election,” said Times pollster Nate Cohn. “He is facing high inflation, a struggling economy, and a deep sense of pessimism among voters.”
Trump was likewise unpopular, with 42% of voters favoring him. However, he outperforms Biden on economic, immigration, and national security problems.
“Trump is still a polarizing figure, but he is the clear frontrunner for the Republican nomination in 2024,” Cohn said. “If Biden doesn’t improve his standing with voters, he could be facing a tough re-election campaign.”
The poll’s results caution Biden and Democrats. The six states Trump leads in were won by Biden in 2020 but are swing states that might go either way in 2024.
Voter pessimism and Biden’s poor popularity ratings are particularly troubling. If he fails to improve, Trump may challenge him in 2024.
