TRUMP HEADS BACK TO NEW YORK FOR CIVIL FRAUD TRIAL

Former Donald Trump is set to return to New York City on Monday to face a civil fraud lawsuit filed by the state’s attorney general, Letitia James. The lawsuit alleges that Trump and his company, the Trump Organization, engaged in a “decade-long pattern of gross exaggeration or outright fabrication of [Trump’s] net worth” in order to obtain loans, insurance, and tax breaks.

On Truth Social, the president wrote, “I will be attending the trial in Manhattan this morning. I greatly appreciate all of the legal professors and scholars who are saying I DID NOTHING WRONG.”

The trial in New York continues a case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The suit alleges that the president engaged in fraudulent business activity pertaining to the Trump Organization.

Per Axios, Trump’s appearance in New York on Tuesday will be his fourth time sitting for the trial, which clocks in at $250 million.

Trump denies the claims and accuses James of the political witch hunt. He also filed a motion to dismiss the case, alleging that the attorney general lacks standing to sue him and that the First Amendment bars the lawsuit.

Trump’s move to dismiss the case has not yet been decided, but the trial begins on October 24. Trump might pay millions in damages if found liable.

The lawsuit is Trump’s latest legal battle. The FBI is investigating him for his role in the January 6th US Capitol attack and handling confidential data.
Trump’s political destiny may depend on the New York civil fraud trial. Being held accountable might destroy his reputation.
