TRUMP: ‘FLORIDA WAS DOING GREAT LONG BEFORE RON DESANCTUS GOT THERE!’

In a recent video, Donald Trump poked fun at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), showcasing the appeal of the lovely Sunshine State on its own terms.

“For those of you that didn’t notice, Florida was doing great long before Ron DeSanctus got there!” Trump stated.

He continued, “People are fleeing from New York to Florida and other places because of high taxes and out of control crime – it’s really bad. Not because of the governor – thank you Mr. President, for doing that. But it’s not because of the governor. Florida was doing fantastically.”

Trump praised previous Florida governors Charlie Crist and Rick Scott (both Republicans), saying they both “did a tremendous job.”

While Crist changed his political identification from Republican to Democrat after leaving office, Scott is currently a U.S. senator. When Gov. DeSantis and Crist squared off in 2022, Crist lost by an enormous 20-point margin.

Sunlight and the sea are quite enticing, Trump continued. Working with those issues is not too difficult. But keep in mind that Florida was doing really well even before Ron DeSanctus arrived.

Before the video on Monday, Trump published a comment on Truth Social criticizing DeSantis for waging a “public relations fueled struggle with Disney.” Trump was making reference to DeSantis’s protracted conflict with the corporate giant, which led to Florida’s most recent piece of legislation (Bill 9B), which eliminated Disney’s special tax district privileges.

To prove Mr. Tough Guy, that was the sole reason he pursued them in the first place, according to Trump. “Disney kept its extraordinary fast track approvals, tax-free bonds, and full exemption from property and sales tax. They also generously supported DeSanctus politically. They undoubtedly collaborated to make him appear to be a combatant, therefore the whole thing is a hoax.

Governor DeSantis has been traveling the nation for the past two weeks on an unofficial book tour, stopping in states including California, Texas, Iowa, and Nevada. He has not officially declared his desire to run for president.

WFLA reports that DeSantis intends to declare his candidacy for president in May 2023, following the end of the Florida legislative session.
