CNN Makes Announcement About Collins Future After Trump Town Hall
Chris Licht, the CEO of CNN, appears to have been extremely pleased with the town hall meeting that former President Donald Trump participated in last week and was moderated by morning show co-host Kaitlan Collins.
He stated on Wednesday that he was handing Collins, a former reporter for the right-leaning Daily Caller, the vacant 9 p.m. EDT position previously held by former CNN prime-time host Chris Cuomo.
According to The New York Times, Licht stated in the email that Kaitlan “will demonstrate why she’s one of the top reporters and interviewers in the business” in her new program, which will formally debut later this summer. We have all seen this talented and intelligent journalist hold public officials and newsmakers accountable. She knocks elected officials off their
Collins will presumably “highlight uncovered perspectives” and make sure that viewers get all sides of the story, Licht said in his missive.
After the network ousted former co-host Don Lemon last month, around the same time Fox News removed Tucker Carlson from the air, she will step down from her current morning co-hosting duties with coworker Poppy Harlow. She will be replaced by a rotating cast of guest co-hosts.
The Daily Caller said that according to the document, the network’s officials are presently looking for people to work with the development team as the show’s executive producer.
Collins hosted a town hall with Trump in New Hampshire on Wednesday that many are calling “disastrous,” and the news of her stratospheric climb at CNN comes at the same time.
According to a statement given to Mediaite by a CNN representative, Kaitlan Collins “exemplified what it means to be a world-class journalist tonight. She posed challenging, fair, and enlightening questions. Also, as President Trump enters the 2024 election as the Republican front-runner, she followed up and fact-checked him in real-time to provide voters with essential facts about his beliefs. The purpose of CNN is to obtain information and hold the powerful accountable.
The majority of the evening was spent ranting and raving by liberals who were outraged by CNN for inviting Trump for the town hall meeting prior to the 2024 presidential election.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York, lambasted CNN in a tweet, writing: “CNN should be ashamed of themselves. They no longer have complete control over this “town hall,” which can now be used to influence people into defending Jan. 6th, falsehoods about the election, and a public attack on a sexual abuse victim. He is being praised by the crowd, who is also making fun of the host.
CNN is solely to blame for this. Everyone present could clearly see what was about to occur. Instead, they endangered a victim of sexual assault to gain attention. There was a decision to spread misinformation regarding the election and January 6th with no other intention than to have their moderator cut them off without repercussions.
On the CNBC program “Squawk Box,” the Head of Warner Bros Discovery, which owns CNN, justified the choice.
“You ought to be. You’ve already faced criticism, you know. Do not forget what John Malone stated. Bring in some legitimate journalists. Now that you’re trying to hire some actual journalists, CNN is criticizing you for firing them, the host said.
The government is divided. Right? We must hear both of voices. You see what I mean. Democrats and Republicans are both airing on CNN. All opinions ought to be heard, Zaslav said.
